In 1654, Queen Christina of Sweden abdicated and devoted the rest of her life to the arts. Her journey took her via Innsbruck to Rome, where she became one of the leading patrons of music of her time and mingled with the city\u2019s most prominent figures. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Margret Koell joins the Queen\u2019s circle and has put together a program of Christina\u2019s favorite pieces from opera and chamber music. Here we encounter works by Froberger and Buxtehude, as well as arias from operas by Cesti, Marazzoli, Rossi, and Pasquini. She has arranged this music into a dramatic narrative\u2014essentially an opera without words, featuring various acts, interludes, an overture, and a finale, all performed as a solo on the triple harp. Margret Koell once again proves herself to be a leading specialist in the Baroque harp, and with her CD no crown!, she brings her audience, in an unconventional way, very close to one of the most dazzling personalities of the 17th century: Christina of Sweden.
